King Dog Postmortem
King Dog » Devlog
What went well
- I finished a game! It’s small, but I finished something as a solo dev under a timeline.
- I was able to polish parts of the game
- Smooth-ish camera
- Particles
- Basic sfx
- Animations
- I learned how to make a SUPER basic cutscene
- I feel like I hit the tone for the game I wanted. Something cute, endearing and “Untitled Goose Game” like.
What could have gone better
- I crunched making this game on the last few days
- Didn’t have a solid (or even loose) plan for what I wanted, I just had a vague “idea” in my head of what I was going to build.
- Due to my self imposed rush I did not get to create a meaningful game loop.
Takeaways / Action Items / Keep Doing
- No more procrastination, crunch, or waiting on longer form gamejams
- Take the time upfront to outline the key project details in writing (Basic design doc)
- Theme, game loop, enemies, what needs prototyping vs done-deal stuff, etc.
- Keep refining the amount of polish and juice I can put into my games
- Keep finishing games
